To Gods, Spirits and Ancestors - Art from Africa in HRH The Prince Consort's private collection
2 May 2009 - 26 July 2009
From quite an early age, HRH The Prince Consort has been an avid collector of African art. In connection with his 75th birthday, HRH The Prince Consort has decided to allow the public to get a glimpse of his African collection, which is normally kept in the private apartments of the royal couple at Fredensborg Palace.

To Gods, Spirits and Ancestors – Art from Africa in HRH The Prince Consort’s private collection presents about 200 personally selected masks and sculptures from the collection.

In connection with the exhibition, Gl Holtegaard and Silkeborg Art Museum are issuing a comprehensive, illustrated catalogue with a preface by HRH The Prince Consort, an article on the history of African art in Western Europe by Poul Mørk and a personal interview with His Royal Highness by the journalist Synne Rifbjerg.
