WINDOW TO CHINA
Robert Rauschenberg: The Lotus Series
20 Jan – 16 Apr 2017The exhibition A WINDOW TO CHINA Robert Rauschenberg: The Lotus Series explores the American artist Robert Rauschenberg’s (1925-2008) great artistic interest and investment in China. The two series shown at Gammel Holtegaard – the photographic series Studies for Chinese Summerhall (1983) and the graphic works in The Lotus Series (2008) – tell the story of an idealistic artist who was always seeking out new horizons in his art, and who strongly believed in art’s potential as a tool and lever for inter-cultural dialogue.
The exhibition is produced by Gammel Holtegaard in co-operation with Robert Rauschenberg’s last assistant, Kevin Pottorf, and associate curator Florence Tone.
The exhibition is supported by:
S.C. Van Fonden and Politiken-Fonden.
The Danish Art Foundation Committee for Visual Arts Project Funding supports Gammel Holtegaards exhibition program.
